TOMORROW'S FORECAST FOR AMARILLO Monday, May 12, 2008 |
 |
Windy 88° | 47° |
| Despite the recent rains that we had last week, the ground is still dry and the grasses are as well. So, when you have unseasonably warm temperatures in the 85-93 degree range on Monday and add in strong southwesterly winds blowing at speeds averaging 20-30 mph with some gusts in the 40-50 mph range, you have all the ingredients for a very high fire danger! Please! Be sure and use extra caution on Monday as to not throw cigarette butts out of car windows and try to avoid situations where a wildfire could start! Skies will be sunny to mostly sunny with just a few patches of high clouds passing by occasionally. |
TOMORROW NIGHT: Partly Cloudy 47° |
| High cloudiness will increase as an upper-level storm system approaches our area from the northwest. The storm system will also push a cold front into the region which should move through most of the High Plains by sunrise Tuesday. Overnight low temperatures will drop to the 44-53 degree range as our breezy southwesterly winds shift around to the north at speeds averaging 15-25 mph with some gusts upwards of 35-40 mph likely throughout the night. Skies will become partly to occasionally mostly cloudy by sunrise Tuesday. |

EXTENDED FORECAST FOR AMARILLO |
| Tuesday, May 13, 200850° | 68° |
| It will be roughly 20 degrees colder on Tuesday than it was on Monday thanks to the early morning passage of a cold front. Winds will be strong from the north at speeds averaging 20-30 mph with some gusts upwards of 40-50 mph possible. These strong northerly winds will pull in some unseasonably cool air into the region throughout the day and will keep our skies partly to occasionally mostly cloudy on Tuesday (which will make it actually feel even colder!) with high temperatures only warming to the 63-72 degree range by late day. |
| Wednesday, May 14, 200846° | 67° |
| With one storm system moving by to our south and southwest, you might think that we will miss out entirely on our rain chances. Well, not so fast! There will be another storm system (pocket of cold air aloft) that will be moving our way Wednesday that is forecast to move directly over us on Thursday. This storm system should start "lifting" the atmosphere and causing isolated to widely scattered showers and t-storms as early as Wednesday afternoon. Average rainfall amounts from the showers and t-storms will be light and on the order of .05 to .15 of an inch with isolated, heavier totals upwards of .25 of an inch with the t-storms.High temperatures will still be kept down by the cloud cover and increased rain chances as we only reach the 63-70 degree range. Winds will blow from the northeast and east at speeds averaging 10-20 mph throughout the day on Wednesday. |
